Balkan Rivers Tour 3 – week 2

Valbona River, Albania
The sparkling Valbona River has whitewater for all abilities. But ALL sections of the river are at risk of being lost if they finish the hydro dam. From the class 5 boulder garden above and below the dam site, to the mellow class 2 swifts that take paddlers here from the bottom of the canyon into the town of Barjam Curri, this is a playground for kayaking, climbing and hiking and a place well worth the drive south to Albania.

Podgorica, Montenegro Protest
Week 2 of Balkan Rivers Tour saw the team hit the water in and out of the city. In Montengro we joined locals who organized a river walk for the Morača River. In a city where protests aren’t common or well-attended, we were excited by the number of locals who turned up, holding signs while walking through the city streets past the President’s house and the Montenegrin National Bank.

Kayak Fest Tara, Montenegro
BRT3 hit the halfway mark of the 32-day tour while enjoying the mellow whitewater of Montenegro’s Tara River at Kayak Fest Tara. More than half the BRT3 team launched off the starting ramp competing in the fun races and three BRT3 team members reached the podium in both the men’s women’s categories.
