Hobkey Adventure Grant was set up to support paddlers to go out and have an adventure on the water. Not just hard core expeditioners, but everybody. From beginners to more seasoned kayakers, canoeist and paddleboarders. The total fund is 4500€ of which, 3000€ in cash and the rest in sponsored kit and service. The prize is divided equally in four categories, sea kayak, whitewater kayak, open canoe and SUP. Each category has a professional committee that will look at all the received applications and choose 5 finalists in each category, which will then go to a public vote. Applications are open until May 31th, 2016.
Hobkey is a keyring manufacturer from Slovenia, Europe, and was funded by Marin Medak, who is himself a keen adventurer. He did a few sea kayaking expeditions in the Mediterranean Sea, around South Korea and also led a Slovenian-British ocean rowing expedition across the Atlantic (www.marinmedak.com). The idea for the grant came from a fellow adventurer Tim Moss and his The Next Challenge Expedition Grant, which is a perfect example how even a relative small amount of money can trigger somebody to take on the adventure of a lifetime.
Marin, “I decided to put 10% of revenue from the keyrings into the adventure grant to support and encourage people to go out on the water. I love the sea, oceans, rivers and lakes and I want other people to enjoy all the joyful moments I experienced while kayaking around the world. I’m glad that so many colleagues, who are much more experienced than me, support the idea and decided to accept a seat on the committee.”
