Scilly Kayaking Challenge 2016

Beautiful, peaceful, magical and unique. The Isles of Scilly lie 28 miles off the Cornish coast out in the Atlantic Ocean. Designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) since 1975, the islands feature distinctive landscapes with sub-tropical plantlife, pale fine sandy beaches and turquoise waters. Their marine animals range from puffins to basking sharks and dolphins.

We are offering you the chance to explore this fabulous part of the UK coastline from the sea! You’ll be part of a kayaking expedition led by experts, who are no strangers to paddling. And of course you’ll be getting a grandstand view of the very best of the Isles of Scilly whilst raising money for MCS to protect our seas.

This really is a truly wonderful and unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the stunning coastal landscape of these islands, learn some new outdoor adventuring skills, have lots of fun and raise money for the vital conservation work of MCS!

Group 1
Date: Tuesday 3rd May to Saturday 7th May 2016
Location: Starting and finishing at St. Mary’s, Isles of Scilly, kayaking the numerous islands and camping along the way.
Group size: 6 – 12 people plus guides. There are 6 single kayaks avaliable and 3 double kayaks.

Group 2
Date: Tuesday 10th May to Saturday 14th May 2016
Location: Starting and finishing at St. Mary’s, Isles of Scilly, kayaking the numerous islands and camping along the way.
Group size: 6 – 12 people plus guides. There are 6 single kayaks avaliable and 3 double kayaks.

Costs
Either: Self-funded, £995 (including £150 deposit)
Or: £150 deposit and a commitment to reach a target sponsorship of £845

Your guides
Nick and Philippa Arding, sea kayaked the length of Britain in 2013 for MCS, raising thousands of pounds for us. Philippa was also our Fundraiser of the Year in the same year.

Nick Arding OBE, spent 23 years as an officer in the Royal Marines and led a Royal Navy expedition to climb the North Ridge of Mount Everest. Nick is a highly experienced rock climber and mountaineer, having climbed and ski toured in many areas across the world during the past 30 years. Nick is a trainer and coach in Remote First Aid and a BCU 5 star leader and Level 2 coach and ISKGA guide.

Phillippa Arding is an experienced expedition leader and a management and team building trainer. She was a successful amateur jump jockey for 17 years and her expedition experience includes leading young people and professional clients trekking in Kenya (Mt. Kenya), Pakistan, Poland, Peru, Tibet (Everest base camp), Ecuador and Morocco.

They have led the Scilly Kayaking Challenge in aid of our marine conservation work for two years. The challenges have already raised in excess of £11,000.

How do I get Involved?
This fundraising challenge is suitable for beginners and intermediate level kayakers. You must be over 18 to apply. Please register your interest or ask for more information by e-mailing fundraising@mcsuk.org

How you can help
Sponsorship raised from the Scilly Kayaking Challenge will help MCS continue to be the voice for the UK seas and work to ensure our beaches and seas are cleaner and our precious marine wildlife and habitats are protected from damaging activities. With your help we can make sure that future generations can kayak in our seas spotting turtles, basking sharks other species that are currently under threat.
